& EDDINGTON INFORMATION & NEW PROMO |
Finally, the
BBC have released some information and one promotional
picture of David in Einstein and Eddington due this Auturnn on
BBC 2. Blogtor
Who also have a 1 minute online
preview clip! Go check it out!
"David Tennant and Andy Serkis star in this drama set amid
the chaos and uncertainty of the First World War. Einstein And
Eddington chronicles the interlinked stories of two extraordinary
men striving for a greater truth while refusing to be constrained
by national boundaries.
Albert Einstein (Serkis) spent years working on his General Theory
of Relativity, which threatened to overturn two centuries of Newtonian
certainty and the foundations of British science. Arthur Eddington
(Tennant) was a prominent British astrophysicist who, as a Quaker,
believed that "truth knows no boundaries" and bravely
championed Einstein’s theories while Britain rejected anything
German.
In 1919, Eddington undertook an expedition to Africa to photograph
light bending round the sun during an eclipse. These photographs
not only proved the theory to be correct, but turned Einstein into
a worldwide superstar.
Directed by Philip Martin (Prime Suspect – The Final Act) and
written by Peter Moffat (Hawking), Einstein And Eddington co-stars
Jim Broadbent, Lucy Cohu, Jodhi May and Rebecca Hall. (BBC

| MILLIONS
TUNE IN TO SEE THE DOCTOR |
Nearly 10 million
people crept out from behind the sofa to find out whether David
Tennant would survive the series finale of Doctor Who.
At its peak, 9.8 million people - an impressive 47% of the total
TV audience - tuned in to see the Time Lord defeat the Daleks, according
to BBC figures.
The average viewing figure of 9.4 million is 300,000 more than watched
the first episode of the series in April.
The figures for Doctor Who followed days of intense speculation over
Tennant's future in the Tardis.
Last week's episode had ended on a cliff-hanger when the Doctor was
shot by a Dalek and apparently started to regenerate.
But with the help of a small army of his companions, the Doctor once
again thwarted the Daleks and their evil creator Davros to save the
universe.
A BBC spokesman said: "We're absolutely delighted with last
night's figures and viewers can now look forward to the Christmas
Special."
However, Tennant's longer term future as the Time Lord remains uncertain.
He will star in a Doctor Who Christmas special this year and another
three specials next year but is not confirmed for the next series
in 2010.
The fifth series has been postponed so that the Casanova star can
take to the stage to play Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

NEWS & PREVIEW TRAILER |
If you've just
watched the thrilling cliff-hanger to The Stolen Earth, you're
probably wondering how we could possibly wrap things up in just
one more regular episode.
The answer is - we can't. That's why next week's,
episode, Journey's End, will run for an amazing 65 minutes! That's
almost 50 per cent longer than a regular episode, and even longer
than the first two Christmas Specials.
Make sure you're glued to your TV at the slightly earlier time
of 6.40pm on Saturday 5th July so you don't miss a moment of epic
action.
Episode 13 Journey's End trailer is now online at

HAMLET LEADS RSC LONDON SEASON IN DEC |
Quote from Whats On
Stage: "As
previously reported, David Tennant
will bring his Royal Shakespeare Company Hamlet to the West End
this Christmas following its run in Stratford-upon-Avon. The production,
directed by RSC chief associate Gregory Doran, is now confirmed
to launch the company’s winter West End residency at the Novello
Theatre, as part of a five-year arrangement with theatre owner
Cameron Mackintosh.
Hamlet runs at the Novello from 9 December 2008 (previews from
3 December) to 10 January 2009 and is followed by Doran’s cross-cast
production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, from 20 January to 7 February
(previews from 15 January), and Conall Morrison’s production of
The Taming of the Shrew, starring Stephen Boxer and Michelle Gomez,
from 17 February to 7 March (previews from 12 February).
All three productions come direct from the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre
in Stratford-upon-Avon. One of the year’s most anticipated theatre
events, Hamlet runs in rep from 5 August to 15 November 2008 (previews
from 24 July) in Stratford, where Tennant will also be playing
Berowne in Doran’s production of Love’s Labour’s Lost, which will
not be transferring to London.
The Hamlet cast also features (See News, 27 May 2008): Patrick
Stewart (as the Ghost and Claudius), fresh from his Tony-nominated
run in Macbeth on Broadway, Penny Downie (Gertrude), Oliver Ford
Davies (Polonius), John Woodvine (the Player King) and Mariah Gale
(Ophelia).
Commenting on Tennant’s titular casting, director Gregory Doran
has said: “Hamlet is a play that waits for the right actor to come
along. This Hamlet will be to some extent who David is. You have
to have an actor who can be, as Ophelia describes him, ‘the poet,
the soldier, the scholar’. He has to be someone who is charismatic
and can be brutal and course, and can be witty and moving and can
physically take on the demands of the part. I believe that David’s
skills fill all these criteria.” More?
If
you missed it, a video of David on the Andrew Marr show is here and
he discusses both Doctor Who and Hamlet.

| FULL
CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR TENNANT'S RSC HAMLET |
Full casting details have
been announced for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s highly anticipated
Hamlet, starring David Tennant as the Prince and Patrick
Stewart, following his Tony-nominated Broadway turn in Macbeth,
as the Ghost and Claudius (See News, 11 Sep 2007). RSC chief associate
Gregory Doran’s production runs in rep at Stratford-upon-Avon’s
Courtyard Theatre from 5 August to 15 November 2008 (previews from
24 July), after which it is expected to transfer to a West End
theatre (still tbc) for a limited Christmas season.
Tennant and Stewart are joined in the company by Penny Downie
(The Penelopiad, The Prisoner’s Dilemma, Dinner) as Gertrude, Oliver
Ford-Davies (most recently seen in Much Ado About Nothing and Saint
Joan at the National) as Polonius, John Woodvine (Timon of Athens,
Don Carlos, TV’s Shameless and Rome) as the Player King and, as
previously reported (See News, 7 May 2008), Mariah Gale as Ophelia.
Also in the ensemble are: David Ajala (Reynaldo), Sam Alexander
(Rosencrantz and Second Gravedigger), Edward Bennett (Laertes),
Ricky Champ (Lucianus) Ewen Cummins (Barnardo), Robert Curtis (Franciso),
Tom Davey (Guildenstern), Peter De Jersey (Horatio), Samuel Dutton
(Lord) Ryan Gage (Oscric), Mark Hadfield (Gravedigger), Jim Hooper
(Priest), Keith Osborn (Marcellus), Roderick Smith (Lord and Captain),
Andrea Harris (Lady), Riann Steele (Lady) and Zoe Thorne (Lady
and Player). The production is designed by Robert Jones, with lighting
by Tim Mitchell, music by Paul Englishby, sound by Jeremy Dunn,
movement by Michael Ashcroft and fight direction by Terry King.
Commenting on Tennant’s titular casting, director Gregory Doran
said: “Hamlet is a play that waits for the right actor to come
I believe that David’s
skills fill all these criteria.”
Doran has just opened his production of A Midsummer Night's Dream
which is performed by largely the same company of supporting actors
who will be performing in Hamlet as well as his upcoming production
of Love's Labour's Lost, the RSC’s first staging of the play in
more than 12 years, in which David Tennant will play the lovelorn
Berowne with Mariah Gale as the Princess of France, Nina Sosanya
as Rosaline and Oliver Ford-Davies as Holofernes. Love's Labour's
joins the Courtyard rep from 2 October to 15 November 2008.
